MYLES KENNEDY Says SLASH Has 'Instilled A Certain Work Ethic' In Him
September 11, 2016In a recent interview with Alternative Nation, Myles Kennedy was asked to name something that Slash taught him just by being in a group with him the past few years that he has brought to ALTER BRIDGE. He responded: "How hard he rehearses. When we're preparing for a tour or a record, he will rehearse something over and over and over again. He just burns it into his brain. I've seen how that can have a positive impact on a performance and how a song comes across. I definitely try to incorporate that more now."
He continued: "For example, this [ALTER BRIDGE] press run we are about to do, we have a few acoustic gigs. It used to be that I would just show up, grab the acoustic and play the song or short set that we had. Now, after playing with Slash, he would insist we get together and practice acoustically because it's a different arrangement. Little things like that have tweaked my perspective. I work that much harder because of it. He's instilled a certain work ethic for sure. He's amazing."
Slash released his first self-titled solo effort in 2010. On that album he employed a different vocalist on each track, before settling on Kennedy for both touring and eventually recording.
Kennedy performed all the vocals on the GUNS N' ROSES guitarist's second and third solo efforts, 2012's "Apocalyptic Love" and 2014's "World On Fire".
Slash told The Pulse Of Radio that Kennedy is one of the most dedicated musicians he's ever worked with: "You know, Myles is pretty interesting. I mean, he sings great, he's a great lyricist, all he does is work, he loves to tour. He works constantly, but when he's not working onstage, he's working in his room, writing stuff and, you know, in the studio he's always there. So he's sort of odd. [Laughs]"
ALTER BRIDGE's fifth studio album, "The Last Hero", will be released on October 7 by Caroline Records in the United States/Canada and Napalm Records throughout the rest of the globe.
